Sycamore Seed
A large scale vertical metal sculpture of a Sycamore key with a cut through, open, veined wing structure and an enclosed seed pod at the base.
The ‘helicopter’ leaf stands like a tall sail, as if it had just spiralled to the ground. The leaf is like a decomposing skeleton leaf. It is a open lace-like network of patterns in metal. It mimics the veins and capillaries of a real sycamore key. At the base is a pod, dense and round, with ribs and ridges like armour to protect the real seeds of the next generation. The pod acts like a weighted anchor for the sculpture, while above, the open-work design allows sunlight and the surrounding greenery to filter through the sculpture, blending it naturally into its garden environment.

- This large upright sculpture can be used as a focal point to draw the eye into the space. It can also fit into a shallow space adding structure to a border or to bring interest to a difficult, low-growth area. The sculpture has a base plate with holes for stakes. The base plate is usually 110cm x 74cm. It is usually made with a spacer part that is positioned below the seed pod so that the base plate can be hidden approximately 30cm below ground level. We can accommodate bespoke requests for fixing and installation. The sculpture comes with heavy duty angle iron stakes for soft ground, or if required, studding for resin anchor fixing into concrete.
